Christy Martinez Garcia - Early Voting-Mixdown041222Artist Name
00:00 / 01:02
"Balance is important. I want to advocate for District 1 and the community at large. I support downtown growth and advocate for local businesses that I believe are vital to improving the economic conditions of District 1- and offer jobs and opportunities. We also need to make sure that aging neighborhoods are not overlooked and neglected. I’m asking for your vote and support to represent and advocate for you."
LIST OF ISSUES
Neighborhood Advocacy

In speaking with neighborhood association members and neighbors many want advocacy and improvements in their neighborhoods. They want equity in how city tax dollars are distributed in the community, especially to know that their own hard-earned tax dollars will be reinvested back into their neighborhoods. As such, I want to advocate for you.

We must ensure that our aging neighborhoods do not continue to get overlooked or neglected.

Christy served on the Parks & Rec Board as a board member and the chair with less than a handful of absences in all the years she served.
Public Safety
While a recent crime stats report shows a decrease in property crimes and homicides the Lubbock Police Department is concerned about the number of traffic crashes, reckless drivers, and hit and runs, which all increased from 2020 to 2021. The number of vehicular homicides also rose – 120%! Speeding and drunk driving were top crash factors. We as citizens should also be concerned.

I’m committed to working with the Lubbock Police, to continue their efforts of connecting with residents; and the residents offering their input so that we work collectively to address issues.

We must keep our residents safe and aware of crime and vulnerability issues. This requires citizen input, and a partnership with our first responders to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Christy participated in the Citizen's Police Academy twice, as well as became a certified fire journalist to learn, understand and be able to better communicate.
Community Engagement

I aspire to help to connect the residents of my district achieve knowledge about programs and resources beneficial to their quality of life. I want to listen and help bring solutions to their needs.

Christy is ready to work and continue to advocate for District 1 and for Lubbock.
Christy is committed to listening, learning, and advocating for her district and the community at large.
"While I don't have all the answers, I understand the issues of my district, the city. That requires listening. I want to go in ready to learn, offer input for impact, and go in prepared to do my best to advocate for District 1 and serve the community at large."
Utilities & Fees
One such issue that has become a concern of many is our rising utilities. When I get my bill, I often comment to Frank on how high it is – especially the growing fees. I think this is the sentiment of many households.  While not each of us pays these fees I think it’s fair to question if we’re getting our money’s worth.
Growth & Infrastructure

Lubbock continues to grow, and while we want to propel the growth, we also need to assure that our neighborhoods are not overlooked or neglected.

District 1 has infrastructure that is dated and needs replacement and improvements. By addressing District 1 infrastructure we will create appeal and economic strength in our district.

I commit that I’ll continue to be an advocate for all citizens of Lubbock and work with my colleagues to assure that Lubbock will continue to grow and prosper, especially in District 1.

Business & Economics

I support downtown growth and advocate for local businesses who I believe are vital to improving the economic conditions of District 1, more so, because they offer jobs. In turn, a win-win for businesses and residents alike.

Christy is a small business owner. She believes there is an important correlation between small businesses and workers.
